Monday: Santorini

After a good night's rest and a bit of soup I was more than ready to get back on solid ground.  Santorini, named for the exiled Byzantine Saint Irini who was martyred in 304 AD, is thought to be one of the most awe inspiring of the Greek Isles (and definitely my picture of what the Greek Isles look like).

Santorini is on the cliffs surrounding a bay, caldera,  which was created by the explosion of the Aegean's greatest volcano in 1500 BC.  Because it is up on the cliffs you have the choice of either taking a mule ride to get to it or a cable car. I chose the cable car, as I was not quite a full strength yet.
