Weekend at Taize

May 2006

After finishing up the photography course in Paris I took the TGV (high speed train) to Macon where I connected to a bus to Taize. Taize is a monastery of brothers from Catholic and Protestant backgrounds, about 70 in all, from many countries. It has become kind of a pilgrimage site for young people from all over the world, and is known for its Taize prayer services, which are almost entirely singing/chanting. For more info you can check out their website, www.taize.fr, but here are some pictures to give you a taste of the weekend!

Almost everything was translated
into multiple languages, with English
being the common denominator, though
there were few native English speakers

There were 3000 (yes, that's thousand!)
people there for the weekend, as it was
Ascension, a holiday in both France and
Germany

Many people camped in their own tents or

use bowls instead of cups)

is separated into this area...)
