Pastoral Prayer, Cameron Webb
When Erin called me on Wednesday and asked me if I would say a prayer for Pat today. My Words were “I would be honored”.
Dear God,
We thank you for Pat Dunigan.
We thank you for our lives with him.
We thank you for the joys he brought to each and every one of us
When we close our eyes and think of Pat, we will always remember how gentle and kind he was to all of us.
His life was such an example to us all.
Born in Pasadena, California, November 10, 1930. Pat spent his childhood vacationing in Newport Beach.
Pat graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of New Mexico in 1955.
Soon followed 34 years of dedicated service to the City Of Newport
Beach where he was a Public Works Dept Field Engineer in charge of
Construction Inspection.
While with the city he enjoyed taking coffee breaks at Dad Donuts on Balboa Island.
After he retired he continued walking Balboa Island with his family and friends every Saturday morning
I will always remember the great times I had with Pat at Balboa Yacht
club, lake Wolloms, hunnington lake, the Dunigan house in Mexico and
every Christmas Eve with the Dunnigans. We shared many sunsets and
earliy morning pancakes.
Who could forget Pat sailing his red lido 14, the “Long shot”, through
our oceans and lakes. We all know that as a friend, Pat was more like
the “sure thing”
We who are gathered here today are saddened by his loss, even in the midst of knowing, as he did, that he is in a better place.
We pray today for Joyce and for Erin, that you will comfort them. And you let them be strong.
Even though we are sad that he is gone from us, we know, trust and
hope, in the fact, that he has gone to a better place and that he is
now free from pain and illness.
As Pat looks down upon us all, he wants us to continue to live our lives to its fullest.
As we all come here today sad and morning,
We also have to remember we have come here today to CELEBRATE the Great life of Pat Dunnigan and share our fond memories.
Lord. Even in the midst of our sadness and loss we hold fast to the
promises that you have given us, that you will not leave us or forsake
us, and we know that as we grieve, you grieve with us...
Lord, we especially thank you for Pat, whom you have now received into your presence.
Amen
